Chichester Tunnels Group By Chichester Tunnels Group

Chichester Tunnels Group - researching fact and fabled tunnels in Chichester and the surrounding areas.

Chichester Delivery stage

£125
pledged of £1,795

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

The group was formed out of a passion and wonder for discovering, documenting, and debunking the legendary tunnels in Chichester. Our work is undertaken responsibly, Is educational, interesting and can be mucky. We would like to hire Ground Penetrating Radar to survey some of the areas in Chichester, provide members with boiler suits, masks (PPE) etc. We will also be providing mucky boot insurance to our researchers. We are not a freelance "urban exploring" group nor do we enter properties without permission.

What we'll deliver:

  • Confirmation of any tunnels by GPR.
  • Publishing educational resources.
  • Working with other architectural and archelogical groups.
  • Holding events.

Why it's a great idea:

Tunnels in Chichester have been rumored for many years, and for many uses from smuggling to naughty clergy, and we seek to sort out the fact from the fable. * We plan to expand our research, investigations and publications on what we find. * We seek to involve more of the local community as research can be done by anyone of any age and ability. * We will also share knowledge of architecture, archeology and research techniques. We currently have a Facebook group with 2000 growing rapidly members and a website https://chichestertunnels.group that receives currently around 50 visitors a week.

Steps to get it done:

  • Register members with local records office and teach them how to research documentation.
  • Demonstrate on the ground researching by maps and architecturalclues.
  • Surveying the areas with assistance from professionals or equipment.
  • Produce reports on investigations either by web, print or exibitions.
  • Produce a map of results for future generations and on going research.
