The idea
As well as Chelwood Nursery being an open air nursery it is also a community based nursery supporting families and children of all backgrounds. On my first visit to the nursery I was given a tour of the facilities and some insight into the rich heritage of the nursery. I also noticed the way the children enjoyed the open space and the natural environment.
The idea for the mural is in some way to reflect that natural environment but most importantly for the children to have a big say in the final outcome. We achieve this through a series of workshops where the children, staff as well as parents can share their ideas and thoughts as well as taking part in the painting itself.
I am hoping the mural will provide a unique opportunity for the children to release their creative genius as well as an opportunity for staff and parents to be Big Kids again.
Painting commences on 7th February and finishes on the 11th February 2022

Why it's a great idea
The Chelwood nursery mural will provide a unique opportunity to bring the local community together to work on an exciting project that will not only enhance the look and feel of the nursery but also will add some more colour to the area. Changes to Government funding of the early years has affected maintained nursery schools like Chelwood and I am hoping the mural might play, even if its a small part in helping to highlight the importance of such nurseries. One of the greatest benefits of the Mural is that the children will take ownership and I am sure it will also be something the nursery, the community and everyone involved will be proud of.
