More about our impact
The environment
The project helped the environment by transforming a piece of litter-covered land into a now much loved for and cared for clean green space. The project included measured to help save dying trees, including mapping route protection zones to understand areas that would require extra consideration during the design process. The project also included airspading of the site, to airate the soil and encourage growth. The project also included a planting day, where local residents planted bulbs.
Volunteering, jobs & education
The project provided young people with the opportunity to learn and develop new skills in design and building, as well as in developing friendships with other young people, staff members and locals from the community, and gave them an insight into job opportunities in a very wide range of fields.
Arts, culture & heritage
The project included workshops for our young people to work alongside local designers, artist, agriculturists and professionals. The young people produced many artworks, including plaques made from cast-iron, with messages to their community such as "save the trees" and "no matter how bad you fail, always believe in yourself".
Activity, health and leisure
During the construction phase of the project, the young people attended site 4 days a week for 4 weeks and took on hard and physically-challenging activities with enthusiasm.
