More about our impact

More about our impact

The environment

The environment

The new storage / workshops for the Club and Wealden Sailability replaced some rather elderly and dilapidated sheds. This has improved the visual amenity of the area overall and it is planned to fit some bird boxes to the rear.

The local economy

The local economy

If nothing else, the regular weekly working parties have enjoyed the ability to unwind and warm up after a busy session by retiring to the local pub for refreshments and a bite to eat!

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

The anticipated improvement in the working environment has been more than achieved. Our great team of volunteers have been able to meet virtually every week throughout the winter, pretty much whatever the weather might throw at us. The ability to equip the workshop with the necessary tools and equipment and keep stores of materials ready to hand have certainly made the operation very much more efficient as well.

Activity, health and leisure

Activity, health and leisure

Having the enclosed workshop has allowed the maintenance work to be carried out much more efficiently, such as completely replacing all the running rigging on 5 boats in one morning. As a result, the overall programme of preparing the boats for the start of our new season is well ahead of schedule. We look forward to welcoming back our 80 or so disabled clients every week so they can enjoy getting out in the nicely refurbished boats. Some learn to sail independently while others enjoy simply being out on the water.
