Wealden Sailability need a shed as dedicated space for storing equipment and carrying out essential maintenance on their sailing dinghies.
Wealden Sailability is a registered charity based at Chipstead Lake near Sevenoaks that offers great sailing experiences to people with all sorts of disabilities twice weekly from April to October. Many sailors return week after week and year after year to enjoy being out on the water, assisted by a pool of over 100 volunteers. With some 25 boats and the need to maintain these in a safe and usable condition, this project aims to pay for a new garage-style shed that will provide both much-needed dedicated secure equipment storage and the space to carry out all types of work on the boats, whatever the weather.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The ultimate benefit is to provide the client sailors with a truly enjoyable, safe and memorable experience, whatever the nature of their disability. To do that, Wealden Sailability has to provide and maintain a range of boats suitable for a variety of physical needs and restrictions - boats that need regular and careful maintenance to keep them performing reliably and, above all, safely. The new boat shed will enable a much better working environment for the keen volunteers who carry out the work as well as secure storage for much of the equipment and spares needed.
Steps to get it done:
Wealden Sailability (WS) are kindly accommodated on the lake by Chipstead Sailing Club (CSC), paying them for the facilities used but run as an entirely separate organisation and owning their own fleet of boats. CSC obtained planning permission and are building three identical sheds and have offered one to WS for their exclusive use, subject to them raising one-third of the overall costs, hence this project and fund-raising.
