Why the sculpture isn't in Barnet!8 years ago
victory-2.jpg

Most of the comments relate to the fact that this sculpture should be in Barnet. Well in the 20 years since the maquette was first produced neither supporters of it nor Barnet Council have found anywhere for it to go! So if we want to see the sculpture actually cast and erected, a space has to be found and there is one in Whetstone. Although the initial inspiration for Pyrrhic Victory was the Battle of Barnet, the concept of the sculpture fits many war situations where we have been the victors. So it shouldn't be thought of as just a Battle of Barnet piece. It is a valid piece of public sculpture in its own right. If anyone has a site in Barnet that can take the sculpture and likely to get planning permission, please let me know. It's very easy to say that it should be in Barnet but not constructive without a place for it to go.

Stroke Association supports John Somerville8 years ago

Garry Jopling, Head of Stroke Support for the Stroke Association said: “John was a very worthy winner of a Creative Arts Award at the Stroke Association’s Life After Stroke Awards in 2016. John’s enthusiasm for art is incredibly infectious and his defiant approach to life, in the face of numerous setbacks is very heart-warming. He has demonstrated exceptional commitment to overcoming a variety of barriers and gone on to create inspiring works of art. John dedicates time to raising awareness of stroke, and has been devoted to supporting other stroke survivors. His sheer determination and resourcefulness meant he could continue to achieve despite setbacks, refusing to let them beat him and remaining positive with a great sense of humour. We wish John all the vest best of luck crowdfunding campaign.”
