Teenage Markets come to Barnet

Chipping Barnet has a historic but fading market. Young people in the town have a limited outlet for their entreprenurial and performance skills. Addressing these two needs together will benefit both.

It seems to be a long time ago that you helped bring the Teenage Market movement to Barnet. We had our launch market at the end of March 2018. On Saturday next (2 March) we will be holding our twelfth. We expect 18 traders and 3 bands (Roycroft, Polarized Eyes and Frankie). It would be lovely to have you come along to help us celebrate. Even more, if you are able to come between 4:00 and 7:00pm, then do bring a paper copy of this email. If you present it to the Dough-Dough pizza van it will be my pleasure to treat you to a slice of pizza and a soft drink as a small "Thank you" for your generosity in the summer of 2017. I do hope to see you (and the sunshine!) on Saturday next.

You might care to check out this short video of sights and sounds from the first Teenage Market in Barnet, which took place on Saturday 31 March on a very mixed day as regards sun and rain. It son Youtube at: https://youtu.be/IfHaLm5cH04. Thank you all so much for your pledges. Now the first one is successfully completed, I am happy to report a completely full take-up of stalls for the next on on the 5 May and the June date is already being added to daily. I am running a SurveyMonkey questionnaire for each market to gather some data from traders, performers and the public, as well as some contacts for future interviews. All of this will be in the final report after the final market in March 2019 - but we are off to a most encouraging start.

We were delighted to take delivery of 20 stalls, plus walls and covered counters for the Teenage Market, on Wednesday 14 March, As you can see, we put most of them up to see how they would look – and I think you’ll agree with all the passers by who stopped to chat, that they look really good in their matching livery

Progressing towards the first ever Teenage Market in Barnet8 years ago

It may not look like much, but here we were, just before Christmas, looking at one of the 20 stalls we have now ordered to be ready for the 31 March opening. These will go in the new (well, second-hand) shipping container/store along with tables chairs and other market stuff. At present we are looking for young traders who would like to join us for this first market. Do you know of anyone between 13 and 23 who has something they would like to try selling? If so, then do let them know, and point them towards www.theteenagemarket.co.uk where they can register their interest and contact me with any questions.

Finally pledges become donations!9 years ago

Since we reached the target we have been working away preparing the ground, while waiting for all the paperwork to be completed. Now it has been and funds are being released into our account. Sadly GoCardless failed to change a previous crowdfunded name into mine. So instead of reading my name on the email it reads “Helen Massey”. Please do not worry, it is your pledge to Teenage Markets and that is where it is going.

Turning a pledge into a donation9 years ago

This is just to remind you that, under the terms of the crowdfunding process, you have not yet donated any money. Your pledge was a promise to donate, once the whole target amount was reached. As that has now happened, Spacehive, the company working with the Greater London Authority to administer CrowdFund London, will be using your bank or card details to collect your donation within the next week or so. Please be assured that this is the first, and only, time that you will be giving money to the Teenage Market project.
