Our dream is to create a space for humans and animals to come together and enjoy as a community. We will provide dog day care, walkies and training – with an awesome plant-based café. But Barkney Wick will be far more than this.
What can we offer our community?
-
We will provide opportunities for locals who would like to socialise with dogs, such as people who are thinking about becoming a pup parent or those who are not fortunate enough to be able to provide for a dog.
-
We will help people who want to work with dogs to gain experience by offering volunteering opportunities.
-
We will provide a safe environment for young people in the community to socialise with dogs who are scared of dogs so as to ease their anxieties
-
We will offer training for homeless persons with dogs to help them care for their furry friends in difficult circumstances. We are in talks with a veterinary charity who we hope will also attend to check the health of the dogs and provide care advice and assist with their needs.
-
We would love to form affiliations with local schools to educate children about dogs.
-
We will host educational evenings to talk about and discuss our environment and all the things we can do to make the future better for generations to come. For example, talks on conservation and how we can limit the damage we cause to our environment on a day to day basis, as well as practical advice on the nutritional benefits of a plant-based diet.
-
The dog day care area is a large space that, when not in use, will be perfect for community events such as art exhibitions, open mic nights, second hand sales and dog and human events.
-
We are offering employment opportunities in the café and the dog day care centre to locals first and foremost. We will also offer training for our dog day care staff and dog walkers.
-
Our fit out will be undertaken by a local contractor. Our designer is also local and our wonderful person with a van is local too! Not only that, but the coffee, pastries and dog treats will all be sourced locally.
