Avenue Community Garden

The aim of the project is to transform a disused piece of council land, which has been a focus of anti-social behaviour into a community garden to bring local residents together and benefit wildlife.

We need people to offer skills, time or resources to develop this project. Check what’s needed below, then click ‘Volunteer’ to get involved.

  • The time has now come to think carefully about how the garden can be designed to accommodate as many interests as possible. We are looking for committed people able to collaborate in teams and make compromises where necessary.
  • We are looking for people who are knowledgeable and can help design a garden that encourages wildlife, works as an arts space, is stimulating and safe for small children, includes everyone, whatever their mobility and can also accommodate dogs.
  • We are also looking for people with admin skills to help with accounts, membership and social media.
  • We would love people with practical gardening and landscaping skills to get involved, such as composting, growing, pruning and general maintenance. You will be very important for keeping the garden going and passing on your skills to newcomers.
  • We need people willing to be on the committee. Currently, we particularly need a treasurer.
  • Soon we will need officers on the committee to look after the interests of the garden from the following viewpoints: membership, diversity, procurement and maintenance, wildlife, education, arts, families with children, and pets.

Happy to give seedlings and young plants; I enjoy growing things from seed - just let me know what is wanted! Happy to do some deadheading too (I know little about pruning other than deadheading). Would love to do community arts sessions there in due course too, acrylic painting, creative writing & craft bits (for fun, not as part of any business etc). (Might have to put some arbitrary figures under hours and value etc, as I’m not sure whether it’s asking total hours - over what length of time? Months/years or per week etc? Value of my time or resources? Happy to commit a few hours a month; value of art/writing sessions can depend entirely on numbers and what people would normally pay for that sort of thing; likewise the plants and seedlings - so it’s difficult for me to put concrete figures below.)

I'm not a professional landscaper but an enthusiastic hobby gardener and would love to help out with building the garden, growing, pruning and general maintenance.

I have been a gardener for many years and since March 2019 I have been an active member of Clarendon Park Community Garden and shadowed the committee members, during their regular Saturday morning gardening meetings (when Covid-19 permitted). This has allowed both an in depth understanding of how a community garden can run and also a greater awareness of some of the challenges. As an experienced teacher, I would like to help make the garden a place for children and adults to learn about wildlife and gardening

As someone who has lived in the area all my life, I would like to contribute to such a great community opportunity. I am a gardener and specialise in social and therapeutic horticulture. I would be happy to put in practical time into the upkeep of the garden and also in any support in shaping community initiatives.

Hello! I’m an amateur gardener and I’m very interested in lending a hand in any hard labour, pruning, and all things maintenance! I also work in admin and would love to offer my time in that as well! I currently have an actual army of strawberry plants in my garden (about 25 plants) so I’m more than willing to offer some of those to the space too :-)
