We're crowdfunding to create a new green space in an inner suburb of Leicester. Having recently secured planning permission for the project, we are working with the Council to complete the landscaping of the space on Avenue Road Extension. Your contribution will go towards kitting out the new garden with a shed, composter, water butts, raised beds, a path, security and covid security.
It will be child and family friendly and forge links with the school and the many centres for faith groups, fostering good relations between communities. We will promote art and storytelling. We have strong links with the community garden on Bulwer Road and would like to form a network of volunteer-based green spaces, to share expertise.
There will be no tolerance of discrimination and harassment from members. Committee positions are open to all. One committee member will be responsible for diversity and one for education.
Please help us create a new green space for the local community to enjoy!
What we'll deliver:
- A new green space in the heart of the city
- A shed for the Avenue Community Garden Association members to store their tools
- Water butts to recycle rainwater
- Fresh vegetables grown in raised beds
- Our own compost from food waste
- Security measures
Why it's a great idea:
COVID-19 has shown us that we really value our green spaces for our own physical and mental health. Avenue Community Garden will provide a safe space for the local community to come and unwind while learning new skills of horticulture!
We will help the environment by recycling rainwater and food waste for the vital ingredients that will make our garden grow!
Steps to get it done:
- Purchase water butts, composters, benches and raised beds
- Create the new community garden
- Open the new garden and bring the community together!
By creating a small local focus at this end of Clarendon Park and by outreach to existing bodies (eg faith groups), we hope to do something to promote community cohesion. It will be a small but lively place for residents to pursue their hobbies and make friends, a small oasis for people and wildlife.
