The idea

The CNC was built in 1997 using government funding & its development involved the local community, through consultation & actions, in its design and purpose. It is a beautiful wooden and glass structure with a grass roof. External renovations, both at the front and rear have made it look pleasing on approach & provided space for us to extend our services outside onto two attractive decking's. However, the internal facilities are in desperate need of uplifting.
We want to see the beautiful wooden floor restored to its original state & lacquered to preserve it going forward.
Our community café needs new tables, chairs & decorative plants. The large hall that residents & local groups can hire needs enhancing with plants & decorative features. Our IT suite has recently been painted & had new cupboards installed by volunteers, but it needs air conditioning as it becomes very hot during the day. We want to uplift CNC so residents feel valued & worthy of a welcoming space in our community

What we'll deliver

  • restore natural wood floor to original state
  • Install air conditioning unit in the IT suite
  • replace the external main door
  • tables, chairs, plants

Why it's a great idea

St Anns is an isolated community with few facilities. The nearest supermarket is in the center of the city inside a large shopping mall with prestigious shops that most of the St Anns community cannot afford to shop in! All residents will benefit from a revamped Centre where they can access healthy affordable food, get help & support both practically, food parcels & energy vouchers & emotionally getting free social welfare law advice to maximise their income and minimise their outgoings. Families can access activities for their children and job seekers can get support looking for work. Older people benefit from having a safe space to meet and socialise in. Community groups have a place to meet & the many other service providers in the area have a central hub to engage with residents.

Steps to get it done

  • To get the floor restored and lacquered
  • Purchase decorative plants, café furniture and install air conditioning
  • install new door
  • Measure impact
