The idea
To coincide with the traditional celebrations of Navratri around the world, the 7events Foundation plans to run 10 afternoons of dance and music - aimed at the elderly community in Leicester. Due to most of the elderly community finding it difficult to attend in the evenings - when most of the celebrations happen - we want to arrange this so they do not miss out and continue to have the opportunity to take part in these important celebrations. The 7events Foundation is a group of individuals who work voluntarily to provide community projects centered around health, sport and arts. Working in collaboration with other organisations and groups, our aim is to work for the benefit of the community and take ownership of such events and projects.
What we'll deliver
- Three hours of music and dance in an accessible venue for up to 400 elderly members of the community per day.
- Light refreshments for attendees.
- A safe environment for all - supported by staff and security
- First aid support to ensure all attendees health and safety needs are managed.
- Work with Stakeholders and the wider community to deliver the project in a professional manner
- Develop partnerships with support organisations to get involved and provide important information to all attendees
- Work in partnership with local businesses to provide refreshments for participants
- The community taking ownership of the project with the 7events Foundation and delivering a very positive project.
- Through music and dance we will ensure a Fun event for the attendees
Why it's a great idea
Positives and benefits of what we are planning: 1) This will increase the engagement and participation of our elderly community by providing traditional live performances in the daytime. We have learnt that they find daytime performances more accessible. 2) Many elderly people in our community face physical isolation. This increase engagement with other members of the community to promote social inclusion. 3) This will provide an opportunity to reconnect mentally with their culture, through traditional music & dance, which will aide to reduce stress and stress-related illnesses. 4) Listening to recognisable songs and music increases emotional empowerment & spiritual happiness. 5) Opportunity to take part in traditional dance. This will help to create strong social connections that increase a participant's sense of happiness & well-being. 6) Research has shown that the benefits of music and dance are are not only physical; but also mental, cognitive, and social.
