‘Acton Unframed’ is a grass roots urban art project that aims to bring the world's best street artists to Acton W3. The project aims to attract visitors to the area and serve as a catalyst to engage the community and to inspire commercial and social change in the neighbourhood. The project is being delivered by West London Art Factory in partnership with local residents. The aim is to to create 5 large scale murals. Jamal Edwards MBE, will feature on one of the murals by Matt Small and local creative talent will be given the chance to collaborate on some of the work. ‘Acton Unframed’ launches with a major coup; world renowned artist Fin DAC, has agreed to create the first mural on a wall in Churchfield Rd, W3, this is due to be unveiled in early June 2019. It is hoped that this will kickstart a project that has the potential to transform Acton from an area that has long been in the shadow of neighbouring postcodes to a high footfall, creative hotspot in West London.

What we'll deliver:

  • New visitors to the area
  • Inspiration for a new generation of youth to get involved in art
  • Showcase up and coming artists alongside world renowned artists
  • Creative cultural events to build community spirit

Why it's a great idea:

Art in the street gets people talking, makes people happy, and has the power to beautify and transform neighbourhoods. It adds colour and character to grey urban areas, it reaches all parts of the community and inspires a new generation of talent, it encourages creativity, starts conversations and creates optimism. Acton is undergoing some big changes, with many new high rise developments being delivered across the area, but still much of the main shopping areas are run down and in need of investment and attention. We see street art as just the first step in a movement to create a more vibrant neighbourhood. With increased footfall and interest in the area we envisage opportunities to create community events, creative markets and family festivals to celebrate all that the area has to offer. The launch of the first piece will see the first of these family festivals being delivered to drive engagement with the community.

Steps to get it done:

  • Finalise wall permissions for additional 4 walls
  • Arrange dates for artists to complete works
  • Organise flights and accommodation for artists
  • Create events around launch of each artwork

The street art project is just the first in a series of planned projects by groups of local residents, aiming to encourage growth and development in W3. Networks are already in place to take full advantage of the the momentum we will build from the unveiling of these innovative, inspiring art pieces. We are in conversation with the community through social media pages created for this purpose and and will engage further once this campaign is launched.
