Accessible Chorley Women’s Centre

Adapt our existing building to provide an accessible space for those using wheelchairs or limited mobility. This will include creating an accessible bathroom and therapy room.

The idea

We have called our centre in Chorley home for forty years. We love our building but recognise that it does not fully meet the needs of our community. We have a great location in the town centre, close to public transport links and amenities. This project will make our centre accessible while retaining its homely feel. We are going to add an accessible entrance, accessible bathroom, accessible therapy room and access to our garden space. It will also create an additional upstairs therapy room to increase capacity.

We already provide mental health support, trauma informed therapy, workshops and groups but making our building accessible will mean we can offer these vital services to more people.

This project will make our centre more inclusive, more welcoming and help us meet the needs of our community. It will also allow us to offer our space to other small community groups, therapists, coaches and practitioners thereby creating a much needed revenue stream for our charity.

What we'll deliver

  • Create accessible bathroom
  • Provide accessible therapy room
  • Provide an accessible space to join workshops, courses and social activities
  • Provide a space we can share with other local organisations
  • Create additional upstairs therapy room which will increase capacity for services and reduce waiting lists

Why it's a great idea

Increase volunteering opportunities and open volunteering to those with access needs
Increase access to training and education
Increase access to mental health support
Expand our reach to help more people in our community
Boost our offering to the community by providing a space for other organisations to use
Enable us to offer far more to disabled women, those with mobility needs and the elderly
Help us reach our accessibility goals
Additional employment for therapists and counsellors due to increased capacity in the building.

Steps to get it done

  • Temporary relocation of centre services
  • Commencment of internal building works
  • The first trial of accessibility with a wheelchair and walking aids
  • Sound proofing of bathroom and therapy rooms
  • Re opening and launching our new accessible space
  • Commencement of internal decoration
