Updates
Earlier this year the Members of Parliament for Watford, Dean Russell, and St Albans, Daisy Cooper, resubmitted the feasibility study. This was one component of the initial bid for part of the Government’s £500 million commitment to reopen railway lines and stations that were closed during the Beeching cuts of the 1960s. This is the second time that the feasibility study you funded has gone to the Department of Transport, additionally we took it to the Minister for Rail last June. Today the Department for Transport has announced further funding to progress the development of plans to reinstate the Abbey line between St Albans Abbey and Watford Junction, continuing the initial work we completed as part of this crowd funding campaign. This is a major step forward and is a major show of support from both local MPs as well as the Department for Transport. So thank you for you support all the way back in 2017. https://www.deanrussell.co.uk/news/abbey-line-passing-loop-receive-government-funding-further-develop-plans https://dft-newsroom.prgloo.com/news/communities-in-the-east-of-england-awarded-gbp-30m-boost-to-build-for-the-future http://www.abfly.org.uk/2020/05/abbey-line-passing-loop-to-receive-government-funding-to-further-develop-plans/
Thank you to everyone who supported us in reaching our target. Since raising the amount we have been working hard and we would like to present our progress at our next open meeting at 7.30 pm on 29 th May 2018 St Stephen’s Parish Centre, Station Road, Bricket Wood, AL2 3PJ. It would be great if you could join us!!
We have our kickoff meeting planned for next month so the ball is rolling!! Over the coming months we will publish more details as we make progress. Additionally there is just one week left to feedback to Hertfordshire County Council about their future travel planning. This plan currently does not include any mention of a passing loop, as such it would be great to completing the councils consultation and tell them how important a better Abbey Line service, because of a passing loop, would mean to you https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/about-the-council/consultations/transport-and-highways/proposal-to-introduce-local-transport-plan-ltp4.aspx
Brilliant news, thanks everyone!
Thank you for your support so far. We still have a little way to go and only this weekend to do it but I am sure with your help we can get the campaign fully funded. Please spread the news so that people who are not aware of the campaign can learn about it and hopefully give us some support. It would be amazing if we could get over the 100 backers, we are just 16 people away, this would really help us show the interest in the line and people can pledge as little as £2 to do this. Again, thank you very much for your support and hopefully we will be fully funded by the end of the weekend!!
Whoop, 70 people have pledged since fundraising began!
