The idea
Last summer we were asked quite frequently if could go and help pick fruit from people's gardens to save the food going to waste. We want to make sure food is not wasted, especially at this time or increased need. So we want to organise a group of volunteers to carry out small scale gleaning days wherever it is needed in the area. In order to this we need to invest in some equipment to allow us to do this safely and effectively.
What we'll deliver
- We will buy equipment needed for gleaning
- We will rescue fruit and vegetables from the area from being wasted
- We will make the gleaned produce available to anyone who needs it
Why it's a great idea
Less food waste.
Less hungry people.
More healthy produce available for anyone who needs it.
Steps to get it done
- We will purchase the equipment needed to glean
- We will advertise our service
- We will find a group of volunteers who want to help glean
- We will get permission and arrange a time to go gleaning
- We will then make the surplus food available to anyone who needs it via the Littlehampton Community Fridge
