More about our impact
The environment
Power consumption. The new PC and monitor is far better than the older machine we had. The power requirements are lower, the PC has water cooling requiring less use of the fans. The previous system had three monitors against one large one now.
The local economy
This project has not directly impacted the local economy outside of engaging young people twice per week and keeping them away from getting up to no good. This indirectly stops antisocial behaviour which costs the community.
Volunteering, jobs & education
Providing good quality and up to date training resources helps our volunteers provide a better class of training. It is also better for them as they can introduce new ideas and engage the cadets further. This has benefited some of our cadets who have been nervous about flying. The VR headsets provide a fully immersive experience where they can see the airfield they will visit.
Activity, health and leisure
The simulator is in constant use during our parade nights. This engages the cadets and provides one of the many reasons they keep coming back to the Squadron. In addition to the standard parade night usage we have run a "Top Nav" navigation event where cadets have to plot their own course and then fly it. Points are awarded to each cadet.
