150 years of South London Harriers
South London Harriers are Celebrating 150 years as a Club and would like to protect our existing Club house and facilities for future generations by improving our Headquarters and track in Coulsdon.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
About the Project Creator
South London Harriers is a club rich in history. It was founded in 1871, making it one of the four oldest athletic clubs in the country. The Club caters for all abilities, with plenty of opportunities for competition and training for men, women and young athletes.
During the winter activity is focused at the SLH HEADQUARTERS in Coulsdon, which is ideally situated for cross-country racing and road running training. In the summer, focus switches to track and field.
Since 1991 the Club’s track and field base has been Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, which offers some of the best facilities in the country including an all weather track and weight training room. In 2013, in conjunction with Woodcote School, we opened Track Coulsdon where seniors and young athletes now train for track and field and road running/cross country. Both tracks and Clubhouse remain open all year for training.
Qualified coaches are available to supervise training and offer advice and encouragement. The club is very active socially, organising various events during the year.
The Clubhouse bar is open after training. SLH welcomes new and prospective members of all ages and abilities to join us on training sessions.
Training and coaching are available at Coulsdon HQ, Track Coulsdon and Crystal Palace. The basis of any athletics club is its competition, and SLH is no different. South London Harriers is involved in competition for all ages in every area of the sport.
.Young Athletes
SLH has invested heavily in time and resources in recent years on our young athlete programme. We have 393 members. Training is provided weekly at both Crystal Palace track and Track Coulsdon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Young athletes compete on the track and field in both the boys’ and girls’ Young Athletes Leagues, and in cross-country races through the winter. Teams are entered in the Surrey Sportshall League in U/11, U/13 and U/15 age groups.
Our triathlon section has coached swim sessions three times a week, regular bike rides and running with the rest of the club. Members compete in races from sprint distance to Ironman including Duathlons and Aquathons.
Our Club is open to all and many, have been members for over 40 years. Not only does it offer the chance to compete, but offers friendship and support.
