South London Harriers are Celebrating 150 years as a Club and would like to protect our existing Club house and facilities for future generations by improving our Headquarters and track in Coulsdon.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
Our Headquarters in Coulsdon, Surrey, is 100 years old. The roof has deteriorated badly over the last 5 years resulting in many leaks causing damage to the structures and floor beneath. It has never been insulated resulting in high heating costs to keep the main hall, kitchen and bar area warm. The existing heating system is often left on by our users wasting energy. We would like to provide a new roof, including insulation and provide energy efficient heaters on timers and recycle more of our materials. We regularly hold functions including the End of Season Supper and Opening Supper, and we hope to hold a large celebratory evening for our 150th Anniversary. In order to do this we need to replace our old kitchen to include a double sink, large oven and good quality kitchen surfaces, cupboards , flooring and painting. Our Track at Coulsdon, hosts races and at twice weekly training sessions and events. We aim to replace the Cage area which needs to updated due to safety concerns.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We are celebrating 150 years of South London Harriers and would like to protect our facilities for generations to come. South London Harriers has 800 members and many of these are young people some of whom are very talented. We would like to keep these members and attract new members so we are able to compete in Surrey Leagues, Southerns and National races. During the winter, our activity is focused at the SLH Headquarters which is ideally situated for road running. In the summer focus switches to track and field .Our Headquarters hasn't had any major works for over 40 years and is in desperate need of improvement. In order to do this we need to ensure that our building is protected by providing a new roof whilst at the same time providing better insulation and reducing energy costs. We aim to use energy efficient appliances where possible to save on these costs. We are a great Club, but would like to be even better and involve all our members in getting involved in this project.
Steps to get it done:
The energy efficient heating and lighting and insulation for the roof will help the environment, and we will recycle more materials. The contract for the roof, Cage and kitchen will boost local jobs. The races the Club organise and help with will increase volunteering. Updating the whole Headquarters and cage area on the track will promote sport and Leisure and allow South London Harriers as an athletics Club to thrive for many years to come, attract good quality athletes as well as people who just want to increase their health and fitness, and socialise. Our events attract many people and we provide many volunteers to run these events. The Elmore 7 is a charity event, where funds raised go direct to a local charity. This is usually in excess of £1500 each year. South London Harriers allows people to socialise, train and race, and is open to all. We organise local primary school races.
