Who are the Friends of West Vale Park
The friends were initially co ordinated by Mary Lavery of Cheshire West and Chester in 2009. Our mission is positive, practical and aims to help maintain the park as a clean, healthy environment for all to share. A further aim was to develop a Fun Day. The Fun Day is organised by the Friends and is supported by the Council and local businesses. It has grown over the years and this year over 600 people attended. The children's activities at the fun day are free and range from a climbing wall and splat the rat and a coconut shy. Local businesses offer refreshments and a group of volunteers bake cakes to sell. With the cost of living crisis, it has been a great place for all local children to enjoy some fun without a heavy cost. The Friends have overseen the planting of fruit trees and wildflower meadows in the past 18 months. It is now time to turn our attention to the play facilities. Each year the attendees of the Fun Day are asked to offer comments/suggestions about the park. As part of our pitch for funds, we sent a leaflet to the residents. This consultation process has shown that there is evidence to support the introduction of the Zip. We will continue to keep them informed and hopefully this will lead to offers of financial support when we go live. As a group we are also looking to the future and know we need to ensure the work continues with new friends and continued support of the local residents.
