The YWFA is a unique flagship organisation, as it is the only women and girls film academy in the United Kingdom. It works with female and non-binary identifying beneficiaries, it is led by an all female board and staff, supported by female volunteers, filmmakers and other industry professionals. This makes the academy distinct, innovative and a platform that can change lives.
The Young Women’s Film Academy gives girls and young women the space to tell their unique and individual stories and the creative skills to communicate their ideas.
Our film making and youth engagement programme enables young women to come together in a safe environment to share their lived experiences, find commonality and connections in their young womanhood.
The Young Women’s Film Academy is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered in 2018 Charity Number 1179614 with the following 3 charitable objectives:
To advance in life and relieve needs of girls and young women aged up to 25 in the North East of England or elsewhere as the trustees determine through:

- providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals;
- Promoting good mental health;
- Advancing education and training.
