Scrapyard Studios CIC has provided inclusive music and art workshops, activities, and facilities since 2018. Our goal is the strengthening of the community, breaking down barriers to well-being, building skills, confidence, and employability. Scrapyard Studios is a grassroots organisation run by local people to address the needs in our community.
Our current work includes the following free activities:
- Fretboard Society - Our 11-18 year olds guitar club makes all young people welcome It is run by 18-21 year olds with mentor support, and a guitar lending library for those without. We've seen members grow in confidence and purpose, and make lasting friendships, breaking down boundaries of background, race, gender and school.
- Sound Lab - A new music songwriting and production club for 11-18s, seeking to get young people working together creating music with professional equipment, reducing loneliness and isolation in the process. It allows young people to experiment with lyric writing, different musical styles, instruments and software.
- Studio 5 - Our professional standard recording studio and rehearsal room. All profits are used to subsidise rehearsals and recording for young bands and artists.
- Gals Who Gig - Regular gigs for women and girls designed to even out opportunities in Liverpool's music industry, and giving opportunities to try out roles behind the scenes such as management, photography and sound engineering.
.- Rock Choir – Aimed at positive mental health, the choir is made up of people with a wide range of experiences, including people who are retired, disabled, students, ex-homeless, and people in recovery.
- Bootle Guitar Club – This project focuses on men’s mental health whilst making plenty of good music on the way.
-Photography Projects – We have run a number of photography projects that celebrate local history, giving people of all ages the chance to share stories, and create exhibitions.
Scrapyard Studios enjoys collaborating with other local organisations. Current collaborations include Salt & Tar, At The Library, Elevate EBP, SAFE Regenerations and National Museums Liverpool.
