The idea
We are awaiting sign off on the venue & will keep all backers updated.
The Peace Yoga Foundation is dedicated to the development and implementation of yoga and mindfulness classes and programs for supporting those with stress, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and those recovering from all types of addictions.
Through the Yoga for Active Hope Project we will deliver free and subsidised Yoga & Mindfulness classes to people in the greatest need in our community; to promote mental, social, physical and community wellbeing across Essex. Each of the classes would involve at least half an hour of social time afterwards to help to build community spirit and new resilience.
We will make Yoga & Mindfulness accessible to people who might not otherwise have ready access to it, either because of affordability, physical ability, social isolation or otherwise.
What we'll deliver
- Deliver free and subsidised Yoga & Mindfulness classes to people in the greatest need.
- Create the opportunity for people to change their difficulties into strength and to fulfil their potential with Yoga.
- Create the opportunity for people to change their difficulties into strengths, and fulfil their potential through Yoga.
Why it's a great idea
Britain now has a serious problem with loneliness. More than nine million people in the country often feel lonely, according to a 2017 report published by the Jo Cox Commission on Loneliness. For far too many people, loneliness is the sad reality of modern life.
A new body of research now reveals that feeling chronically lonely is a cause behind heart disease, dementia, depression, and a host of other serious illnesses. The UK has gone so far as to create a Ministry for Loneliness.
We want to confront this challenge starting with our community in Essex and to take action to address the loneliness endured by many in our communities.
We want to offer Active Hope in our community through these practices because when people are feeling lonely, depressed, sad, or broken they reach for a pill, or other drugs, or a drink to eliminate their feelings of loneliness and frustration. But with free access to Yoga and Mindfulness people in Essex will have a life affirming alternative.
Steps to get it done
