More about our impact

More about our impact

The local economy

The local economy

We support a local artist who employed 2 of our volunteers to help with the workshops. We pay 2 local bands and we buy refreshments (baked potatoes) from the local pub. These all help the local economy

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

We encourage local residents to help with the marshalling - even if they don't volunteer with us any other time. If children join the parade we insist that their parents come too to help with the marshalling

Arts, culture & heritage

Arts, culture & heritage

The first parade was 8 years ago and was funded by the Arts Council because this area has few arts facilities or events. Since then we have been successful in obtaining grants from several other funders who appreciate the event and want to encourage arts activities. It took several years to encourage the more deprived areas of the village to join in, but once they had the confidence to do that they have been firm supporters.

Activity, health and leisure

Activity, health and leisure

Our workshops were fully subscribed every week - they offered a family activity for all ages. The parade is outdoors and involves a walk round the park and recreation ground, and every year we are surprised that residents aren't aware that the park is there !
