We want to buy some woodwork tools to complement the hand-tools we already have at the makerspace. Carving, wittling and threading wood will allow us to shape wood into decorative and practical designs.
The items that could be made include spoons, woodblocks for printing, relief carving on wooden furniture, wooden animals and wizards, cups (kuksa), printing/bookbinding presses (utilizing the threading tool to make wooden threads).
What we'll deliver:
- Add whittling/spoon carving tools to LAMM
- Add a wood threading kit to LAMM
- Run a series of wood carving classes at LAMM
- Add mallet and carving chisels to LAMM
Why it's a great idea:
Through learning, practice and teaching, we will keep heritage skills alive. By making specialist tools available for both members of LAMM and the general public, we reduce the barriers to both leisure and entrepreneurial wood crafting.
Steps to get it done:
- Buying new tools
- Putting on carving classes
