The idea
June is Pride Month and we are celebrating by doing a 10k walk along the Thames Path in Hammersmith and ending with a celebration at the Black Lion Pub in W6.
We are aiming for 500 people to take part, we have done a risk assessment of the route and Hammersmith and Hounslow Councils have given us the green light.
The celebration at the end will include celebrity speakers, drag performers and a DJ.
We are also using this as an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease.
What we'll deliver
- Providing an inclusive and safe LGBTQ+ Event in the Borough (currently there are none)
- It will provide the LGBTQ+ community an opportunity to be visible in the borough in a positive way
- It will provide up to 500 people the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends
- It will provide up to 500 LGBTQ + people the opportunity to be outdoors and get some exercise in a safe environment
- An opportunity to raise funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease
Why it's a great idea
There are currently no events, safe spaces, infrastructure or networking opportunities in Hammersmith for the LGBTQ+ Community. This event will provide our community with the opportunity to meet and engage with other LGBTQ+ people in the area, it will highlight and celebrate Pride Month, it will provide up to 500 people the opportunity to be outdoors and get some exercise, it will demonstrate that there is an LGBTQ+ Community in West London, it will shine a light on Hammersmith and demonstrate that it is a safe and inclusive borough to live in, it will provide an opportunity for 6 drag shows and a fun and inclusive event that everyone is welcome to come to. It will also bring some much needed funding and awareness to Motor Neurone Disease.
Steps to get it done

West London Queer Project (WLQP) is a non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) driven by the desire to connect, support and give voice to Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender queer and other sexual and gender identifying (LGBTQ+) people in West London. Our organisation aims to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people in West London and beyond. We offer fun events, a safe space, a welcoming, supportive and safe environment to uplift, empower, and connect as well as advocacy, awareness-raising and change making activities among local policy-makers.
WLQP connects and supports people and their families to feel well resourced, connected, and safe and to know their voices matter.
