The idea
Wendell Park Gardening Friends is a community group, open to volunteer gardeners of all ages and abilities, which is engaged in maintaining, improving and embellishing Wendell Park, W12
The group was set up in the summer of 2017. The group will meet on at least one Saturday a month to plant, weed, feed, prune, tidy and otherwise embellish the herbaceous borders and flower beds in the park.
Over time, it is envisaged that specific areas of the park could be given over to specific gardening ideas or themes, such as sensory planting (scent, texture, sound, flavour), children's gardening, etc.
The group aims to encourage local people of all ages, backgrounds, skills, and abilities to take an active interest in their local park and to spend quality time outdoors doing something positive for the community and getting to know their neighbours
What we'll deliver
- Maintain, feed, weed and prune the existing shrubbery
- Redesign and replant the beds throughout the park
- Transform and replant the herbaceous border on the south side of the park
- Plant naturalising drifts of daffodils, narcissi and other spring bulbs in various locations
Why it's a great idea
This is a great opportunity for local people of all ages, backgrounds, skills, and abilities to take an active interest in their park and to spend quality time outdoors doing something positive for the community and getting to know their neighbours.
