By Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council
We would like to offer a series of taster arts activities (e.g. drama, music, film-making, creative writing) for children and young people in Welland, based at St. James Church.
There aren't currently any creative groups or activities for young people in Welland, so we would like to meet some local young people aged 10-18, and offer them some arts workshops to see what kind of regular activities they might like. We will invite some brilliant arts practitioners to run taster workshops in drama, music, film-making, and creative writing, then we will host a relaxed 'open mic' / performance evening to share some of the groups' work. The emphasis is on fun, creativity, socialising, and trying out some new skills, with no pressure to perform or specific criteria for achievement. Arts activities have a proven positive affect on young people's confidence, creative thinking, well-being, social skills, and project management skills. Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council are keen to set up a regular group for local young people, and this is a fantastic way of getting young people together to see what kind of group they might like to be part of in future.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The obvious benefit of our project will be to local young people, who will have the opportunity to try out some new creative activities, meet new people, and learn new skills. Our wider community will also benefit in a number of ways; more activities happening, the Church space being used regularly, opportunities for volunteers, families and friends will be invited to our 'Open Mic' event. There will be a sustainable benefit for the community due to increased feedback and links with local young people; finding out what activities they enjoy, and making them part of the decision-making process for events and groups in the village.
