Walthamstow has a cricket club in its present location since 1862, serving the local community and providing recreational facilities for local residents. The club is located in an area of high social deprivation facing various challenges and is run entirely by volunteers, relying on membership subscriptions, fundraising and donations for revenue.
The vast majority of the club’s members live within walking distance and there is a lack of access to any similar facilities. The club is keen to maintain and expand membership from the local community, thus increasing the level of participation in sporting activity.
Walthamstow Cricket Club has supported a range of initiatives to encourage residents of all ages and communities to participate in cricket, all of which have resulted in on-going participation. The club has a rich history of providing cricket for the local youth in an area of high social deprivation, working with schools and community groups.
