Hello!! We are Vulpes Vulpes - an artist-led project space in Bermondsey.
We have spent four years working voluntarily, organising and curating 26 exhibitions, showing over 140 artists. We seek to create a platform for emerging artists, encouraging them to engage with the space, its history, architecture and that of the surrounding area, whilst making the space accessible for the local community by having free children's workshops and events open to all. The project is managed and run collectively by a team of artists and activists.
Achievements over the last year include a film Approach Togetherness, shown at the ICA; an Open Call exhibition featuring 21 artists, three smaller scale curated group shows and an international project at Abilene Gallery in Brussels. We were recently featured in Kevin Hunt's Artist Led Hot 100 - an artwork in the form of an arts listing publication 'that aims to draw attention to some of the most superb activity being facilitated by emerging independent artists and curators right now in the UK.' In March we ranked 4th of 765 applications to Apexart's Unsolicited Proposals Programme in New York for our project Vorkurs. Unfortunately only the first 3 projects were realised, but since then this exhibition has been accepted on another London gallery's programme in March 2014. This October we will participate in the Art Licks Weekend which is a London arts event highlighting independent and artist lead spaces. We have been asked to act as a hub for the event, with our gallery used as a convergence space, connecting visitors with other art events in the area. We were also shortlisted, with 4 other spaces, for the Workweek Prize organsied by Artquest.
