The idea
Upton is a lovely and welcoming town; beautiful and lively in spring and summer, with fantastic flower displays and wonderful festivals that are so well supported by locals and visitors alike!
Sadly we’re let down by uninspiring decorations and half-hearted light displays and we know we can do much better; but with government cuts our Town Council has its financial hands firmly tied. Being the resilient community that we are, we’re rising to the challenge and need your help.
Initially, we’re raising money for the infrastructure needed to support any manner of street decorations. Flags, bunting and banners will become a permanent fixture for Upton groups to use all year round. Decorations will include festoon lights to brighten High St, New St and Old St. Later, when funds allow, we'd also like to extend the festoon lights to the Riverside area.
Upton’s people have always punched above their weight, and we can do again. Please help us brighten our Town! Together we can do this!
What we'll deliver
- Infrastructure required for improved town street decorations including the support wires across the street.
- Power supply for lighting and bunting across the streets
- Wall flags incorporating the Upton Coat of Arms
- overhead festoon lighting
Why it's a great idea
Making Upton a more attractive place will not only benefit residents, but will also make it a more attractive place to visit. Many local towns such as Malvern, Tenbury and Pershore all benefit from street decorations and Upton should be no different. Our aim is to raise enough funds so that we can continue to build on Upton's fantastic festival reputation by providing all year round decorations. This will be achieved with festoon lighting, flags bearing Upton's Coat of Arms, banners and bunting. Unfortunately local government funds are tight, and although there is some support, to achieve greatness this is on us! Knowing how wonderful our community is, we are confident that between us all, we CAN and WILL do it!
