Union Chapel - Sunday School Stories
Sunday School Stories - Tales of dissent and social change. Help us create a space for contemporary community use and save our dilapidated Sunday School Hall.
About the Project Creator
We are an independent, secular charity, founded in 1991 called Union Chapel Project. Our work is an outstanding example of the way in which you can find new uses for an historic building, without compromising its original function, as a Church in our case.
Our purpose is to care for and develop this unique building, located round the corner from Highbury and Islington tube station, and to open it up to as many people as possible.
We believe people from all backgrounds should have the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful space and that it should be available to all for generations to come.
Union Chapel is an amazing space. It is an architectural treasure that’s home to a working church, an award winning independent music venue, a unique organ and The Margins Project for those homeless and in crisis in London.
Over the past 25 years the Chapel has gone from facing demolition to being Grade 1 listed and from being virtually abandoned to welcoming tens of thousands of visitors a year.
As we gradually raise the funds to repair and open up more of the building we are able to create new opportunities for creativity and inclusion. This latest section of the building to be repaired - the Sunday School - is one of our larger projects to date and will be the first space we repair that will be run in collaboration with local community groups. We are very excited to be working on this new phase and look forward to welcoming more people into the building.
