We want to purchase an e-trike taxi and e-cargo bike to use as a means of sustainable transport, to make short journeys around Evesham eco-friendly, carbon neutral and fun. We want to use the e-bikes as a taxi or private hire vehicle as a means of intergenerational work with local care homes, community centres and other groups, with the ability to pick up food or prescriptions. To do this we will use a bank of locally trained volunteers, with opportunities for young people to become drivers. The e-bikes will also be available to hire to other groups to use as part of their own sustainable transport projects and community events. When not actively in use by the community the e-bikes can also be used to replace our own use of a diesel van, further reducing our own carbon impact, while at the same time promoting active and green transport. We hope that these bikes will act as a pilot that can be extended in the future, building greener and more active forms of transport in Evesham.

What we'll deliver:

  • Purchase e-trike and e-cargo bike
  • Train young people and volunteers to drive

Why it's a great idea:

The Project will help deliver and support green and sustainable forms of community transport. It will reduce carbon emissions and congestion, support people into employment, build community capacity and have strong health benefits. It will bring health and wellbeing benefits for the bike drivers and passengers through increased physical activity and by reducing the social isolation of elderly people. It will increase connectivity through improved access to services; and removing the equivalent car and van journeys from the roads. This will remove carbon emissions and reduce congestion by using cycle routes. The project will connect to other forms of transport by connecting to train stations in the district, and thereby increase the opportunities for sustainable travel and tourism. It will provide training opportunities for young people who need a little extra help to build their skills and self-confidence to support them into future employment.

Steps to get it done:

  • Purchase and delivery of the e-bikes
  • Training of volunteers and young people
  • Promotion and advertising
  • First taxi or private hire ride
