The idea
Helping people move from survival to stability in Dover, Deal and Ramsgate
TRE for Refugees is a community-based wellbeing project delivering TRE® (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises) to refugees in Dover, Deal and Ramsgate, East Kent.
The project will support individuals within families who have experienced trauma, displacement, chronic stress or prolonged adversity to gently regulate their nervous systems, reduce distressing symptoms and regain confidence and agency in their lives.
By funding this project, you will help at least 100 people learn an innate, evidence-informed, body-based self‑help tool they can use for life - benefiting not only individuals, but families and the wider community.
What we'll deliver
- We will deliver 40 TRE workshops
- We will empower 100 family members
Why it's a great idea
Many refugees live in a near-constant state of Fight, Flight or Freeze.
This survival mode can show up as:
Anxiety, anger or emotional overwhelm
Chronic stress and hyper vigilance
Sleep problems and exhaustion
Medically unexplained symptoms (aches, pains, headaches, IBS)
Difficulty trusting others or maintaining relationships
Talking therapies can be helpful, but they are often hard to access, culturally unfamiliar, or insufficient on their own when stress and trauma are held primarily in the body.
A well‑regulated nervous system is the foundation for:
Feeling safe enough to learn, work and connect
Improved physical and mental health
Stronger family relationships
Greater community cohesion
This is where TRE makes a tangible difference.
