Horses for Wellbeing uses Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) to positively impact the lives of young people aged 5 to 18, particularly those dealing with mental health issues and trauma. We provide therapeutic experiences and tailored programmes to meet the unique needs of the target demographic and address challenges such as social isolation, low self-esteem, separation anxiety and ADHD. Through ground-based activities, utilising the connection between horses and humans, we seek to cultivate personal growth, resilience, self-esteem, and emotional regulation.

In the UK, alarming statistics from NHS Online reveal that in 2023:

• 1 in 5 children and young people aged 8 – 25 are struggling with probable mental disorders.

This crisis is no different in Gloucestershire, when in 2022:

• 25% of children face social, emotional, and mental health challenges.

• 21% have speech, language, and communication needs.

Without early intervention and support, children with additional needs are lacking crucial opportunities for growth and development. These vulnerable children not only have limited support and resources but are also experiencing multiple Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s). Tragically, 10.8% of them endure regular bullying, leading to a significant decline in their mental wellbeing.

Due to financial constraints, many of these children in need are unable to access our services. We firmly believe that every child should have the chance to strive, regardless of their financial circumstances. We are running this campaign to help raise the funds needed to offer our programmes at a discounted rate or free at point of use to those who would otherwise be unable to access our services due to financial circumstances or lack of backing through other funding lines.
