Transform our village lanes and walls

We want to reinstate pathways around the village to make it safe to walk around the lanes. We also want to repair the historic walls which are falling down in places .

This project has reached its fundraising target. It has also activated Continuous Fundraising, which means you can still donate and support the project.

The idea

Our Neighbourhood Plan Committee aims to transform our village lanes in order to preserve our heritage. This will include clearing overgrown paths and repairing historic walls to create safe walkways for villagers and visitors to discover the village and its enjoy its history. Our village is surrounded by very old sandstone walls which are needing a lot of repair. They will need expert attention due to their age . Repairing the walls will give them a new lease of life , reinstate their beauty and make them safe for people to walk alongside them. The main area we are concentrating on is half a mile of village paths and walls .
Villagers and visitors enjoy walking around the village but have said that they don't feel safe walking in the road due to the overgrown paths and due to sandstone which has fallen from the walls. Many of the older locals remember what the walls looked like and are saddened by their deterioration. This project will benefit all villagers and visitors alike.

What we'll deliver

  • clear safe paths to walk along
  • beautiful historic sandstone walls
  • a piece of history reinstated

Why it's a great idea

The village of Ince is over a 1,000 years old.We have 26 listed items in the village and are very proud of our heritage . Having recently had our Neighbourhood Plan adopted by the council we want o fulfil the plans within it. These plans have been agreed by the villagers who have identified the issues needing to be resolved. 64% of the residents agreed that the lanes around the village needed improving and this includes paths and historic sandstone walls.
Our project is part of the Neighbourhood Plan and will benefit current and future residents and also visitors to the village. Visitors have increased since Ince was discovered by people during lock down.
We believe that the safety of those walking around the village is as important as the understanding and appreciation of the history of the village . This project ties in with our plans to create a Heritage Board in the village which will inform everyone of the history of Ince which is quite remarkable .
