Ness Village Hall is a lovely place for the community to come together for social and wellbeing events. The hall was built over 30 years ago for the community, by the community and now needs some TLC.
The local community have told us current access from the road to the parking area is in need of levelling off and there are areas requiring repairing eg potholes We would also like to address the flagged areas around the building to make the hall more accessible (entrance ramp etc). For the side facing the grassed area and outdoor playing area we believe that by extending the area with decking/paving flags, will enable a much requested picnic area to complement the outdoor tables and seating currently in place. Storage is also an issue and needs upgrading within the loft space of the hall in particular: this will help the dance school with a safe space to put all their equipment. The outside container will make the football and outside equipment safer and more proctected from the elements. Inside the hall requires redecorating and modernising to bring back that freshness and the feeling of being loved.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The local community will benefit from these changes, encouraging new users of the hall and new activities. The current users will also benefit: the dance school, Ness neighbours coffee mornings, pilates and zumba classes, football teams the private bookings for kids parties and other functions. Everyone will enjoy these changes because it benefits them all, the building will not look 30 years old. The buzz the work will generate will attract new volunteers to help with the running of the hall and to support groups. Ness neighbours runs community coffee mornings to encourage the community to come together, new volunteers would enhance this eg more cake makers. New volunteers can help maintain and improve the area associated with the hall: gardening and general outside maintenance of for example new flower meadow due summer 2023. The new picnic area can be used outside the hall opening hours, creating family space by the play area, becoming a safer and trusting area to use.
Steps to get it done:
We have a lot to do as Trustees, working alongside the community, to get the Hall into better shape and this will be the start to that process.
