After extensive research, speaking to local village members and historical and environmental organisations, the children and staff at Tattenhall Park Primary, will write a film with Impossible Arts Film Company to capture how the village has grown and the many exciting historical events that have taken place there. A village song, to accompany the film, will also be written with the children by composer Daphne Sarnat.
The second part of the film will consider ways in which the local community can protect the heritage, climate and biodiversity of the village for the future and will show people how they can make more sustainable life choices.
This film will be shown at a community event in the school grounds on a large outdoor screen and can be used as a resource for the future to celebrate the achievements of the village and to provide a record of history to support learning in the school.
This could be used as a model to support similar projects in neighbouring villages.
What we'll deliver:
- Create a film about the village
- Hold a community event to show the film on an outdoor screen to the community
- With a composer, create a village song drawing on historical and ecological features
- Create a 'Wildery' outdoor area to show the children and local community how they can create habitat areas
Why it's a great idea:
1) Raise the profile of sustainable choices in the village- we have many keen environmental organisations in the village, who would love to encourage local people to find out more about their locality and how to protect it and it's climate.
2) Nurture community links between stakeholders across the village- we have many generations of families in the village who have a wealth of knowledge and stories to share.
3) Enhance the children's understanding of their local heritage and biodiversity and thus the importance of protecting it for future generations - this is instrumental to our school mission statement- 'Roots to Grow and Wings to Fly'
4) Capture the unique history and biodiversity of our village for all to enjoy - there are so many fascinating stories and features in our village that every family should know about. Every family should know the stories behind the buildings they pass every day and the names of the plants and animals that flourish outside their door.
Steps to get it done:
- Creation of script of film after children and local organisations have collaborated
- Filming and interviews in the village
- Showcase of film at outdoor whole village event
This is an example of a film - 'A World Full of Wildlife' https://vimeo.com/842485014/e68b80db63
that has been made previously by Impossible Arts with schools that was shown at 'The Light Cinema'- this also included a song composed with the children by Daphne Sarnat.
The intention is that 'Our Village, Our Future' will be a high quality film that can be used as a historical record and educational resource for generations to come.
