To deliver 4 free top quality tea dances for older people and people living with various disabilities including dementia in Tower Hamlets. Inclusive of food, entertainment, transport and dance lessons
To deliver 4 tea dances across the year which are free for people to attend. The funding would include music, food, dancing lessons and support for transport for the most vulnerable community such as people living with dementia, giving everyone an opportunity to an active and healthy life surrounded by others, thus reducing loneliness too. We have previously run similar events which have been been successful although very limited due to lack of available funds. Events have previously been paid (£3.50 entry), which has been a significant barrier, have included plastic & paper crockery, which is bad for the environment and just a karaoke machine. The funding will allow the dances to be free for everyone meaning they are totally inclusive, professionally prepared food, authentic crockery with suitable entertainment and dancing lessons, we would expect to engage with over 700 people with this improvement in service, this would be an increase of 100% compared to other events..
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
There are so many reasons this project is a great idea and we have already begun to see great progress in the below areas, however making the dances bigger and better will make more of an impact to more people! Its great because... 1. It'll bring Tower Hamlets residence together regardless of background, status or ability. 2. It will engage people already attending in fundraising & the legacy of the project. 3. Increase partnerships between service providers - so we can support more people from more backgrounds! 4. Brings people from care homes and people living with dementia into a fun, friendly environment where they can meet new people and let their hair down! 5. Helps combat social isolation 6. Helps our staff and centres become more Dementia friendly by being involved There are many many other benefits of these events but we have run out of space!
Steps to get it done:
This project will take place at the heart of the community and give those attending the opportunity to access other exercise sessions/ information and meet like minded people. Think about the older relatives you have or know; get them in a room with music from pre and post war, a bit of karaoke, a dance floor, food and drink - how much would they love that! We can provide it all :-)
