More about our impact
The environment
We had a fantastic year creating a lot of produce that was used in our kitchen and donated to local food projects. This produce reduced our reliance on supermarkets and the food-miles associated with purchasing vegetables. Additionally the project encouraged biodiversity through the planting of flowers and plants beneficial to polinators.
The local economy
We were able to provide fresh produce for our members and catering service, allowing people access to farm to table produce. This is particularly important for the group we serve as disabled people have greater pressures on their expenditure and are at greater risk when it comes to nutritional choice.
Volunteering, jobs & education
We have a core group of volunteers that oversee the space, this increased from just one person to three over 2023. We also partner with other groups such as 'Napier Friends' to provide day-volunteering opportunities. Finally, volunteer drivers are crucial to ensuring our member's access to the outdoors.
Arts, culture & heritage
Our community garden has also been used to inspire our members to create artwork. We have run sketching sessions at the farm and drawn still lifes of produce brought back to the centre.
Activity, health and leisure
The community garden is a great way for our members to get outdoors and experience the world using all their senses.
