The YMCA aims to empower and motivate people in our society, includung those who are disadvantaged through social, economicdeprivation by their participation in recreational, spiritual, educational, physical and social programmes throughout the Cardiff area.
The YMCA is the world's oldest and largest youth and welfare charity. Since its formation in 1852 the YMCa has operated from a number of sites in the city over the past 160 years, it moved to its current home in The Walk, Roath , close to the city centre in 1981. As a locally run organisation, Cardiff YMCA can move quickly to respond to the needs of people and their communities in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Whilst a great deal of the work of Cardiff YMCA is centred around young people, it is our aim to work with all sections of the community across a broad range of services which will be developed to a much higher level to ensure that the association is reaching all sections in the community.
CARDIFF YMCA CHARTER: Having first established and providing services from 1852, we continue to evolve and adapt our services to meet the needs of the local community. We aim to provide high quality services in six main specialist areas:
- Personal and Social development
- Sports, Health & Fitness
- Drug / Alcohol Awareness and avoidance
- Education and Training
- Intergenerational services for the whole community.
- Support its members.
Traditionally, our priority has been young people, however we aim to work with all sections of the community, in collaboratively designing and providing services to them.
