By Tide of Light Community Group
Working with the world famous New Carnival Company and our community to build extraordinary illuminated lanterns for the parade in 2019.
The Tide of Light Community Group aims to bring fun and creativity to the whole community, through engaging arts projects based around recycling and illumination. This results at the end of the Autumn School Term in a huge illuminated parade and free celebration along the Seafront and in Worthing Town Centre. It is West Sussex’s fastest growing event and attracts 40,000 residents, we work in schools with 1,500 local school children, and the project is delivered every year by a group of over 100 volunteers. This year we are seeking to work with the incredible artists from the New Carnival Company to deliver workshops with community groups to build extraordinary illuminated lanterns. The New Carnival company have recently returned from Rio working with groups of people with disabilities to access the Rio Carnival. We are really excited that they want to come to Worthing to share their knowledge. This means that skills learnt can be shared year on year to our own community groups who
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
These workshops will significantly increasing the artistic quality of the parade, and give community members the chance to learn skills which will stay in the community year after year. Our vision for this year is to see the most wonderful structures illuminated and articulated proudly paraded by the people who have made them over the course of the next few months. We have ensured our new parade route is accessible to all including those on wheels and we would actively be encouraging community groups with disabilities to take part in the making of the structures and participating in the parade.
Steps to get it done:
Our ambition is to help produce a really high quality, visually stunning event for the people, made by the people. We can do this with your help. Please help us to equip our community to make the best structures they can. * THANK YOU *
