Updates
Thank you so, so much for contributing to the fundraising campaign to restore the Greek Runner in St Peter’s Square. We are delighted to confirm that the target has now been reached and that the project is proceeding well. Recently a ‘patch test’ was completed by Rupert Harris Conservation, the team who will be doing the restoration work. All went well and the council’s Planning Officer will be inspecting the statue this coming week to give the final ok. We are expecting the work to be completed this autumn. If you pass by you’ll notice one of the lower legs is now restored to a glorious bronze colour (as in the attached ‘photo), which is how it would have looked originally. The plan is to restore to as near the original finish as possible whilst ensuring that the statue will be protected for the next 100 years. Before the work starts the roses surrounded the statue will be pruned and lifted, then stored securely before being replanted after the work. Thanks to all the generous support, the Greek Runner will stand proudly in the Square for many years to come. Many thanks for your help in making that happen. With best wishes The St Peter’s Residents’ Association
