The Coffee Collective

We’ll work with independent coffee shops to take away their waste coffee, stopping it from ending up in landfill. The grounds will then be turned into super fertiliser, ready for community gardens.

More about our impact

More about our impact

The environment

The environment

1. We diverted 3,000 kilos of waste away from landfill 2. We prevented wet waste coffee from damaging healthy soil 3. We prevented 7000 kgs of carbon dioxide equivalent from being released into the atmosphere. 4. we helped reduce costs for local independent coffee shops with their waste charges. 5. We improved environmental awareness in our communities 6. we reduced landfill and transport costs for Merseyside and waste authority money 7. we helped to save community groups from spending additional funds on fertilisers, that creates a massive carbon footprint. 8. We helped raise environmental awareness in the city region to the benefits of natural carbon capture and how we can reduce waste and recycle more

The local economy

The local economy

1.We helped save local independent coffee shops money by reducing the amount they spend on waste removal charges making their businesses n more productive. 2. We helped save MRWA money on landfill charges 3. We provided free fertiliser to community groups, farms, pocket parks and allotments, saving them money on commercial fertiliser. 4. The improved productivity of the soil will continue to help local allotment and farmers save and produce more agricultural products 5. The "carbon shadow" impact of communities learning about food waste helped them reduce the amount of waste they produce. 6. By supporting this project, the credentials of Liverpool City Region as a centre of innovation and community collaboration will continue to be enhanced as a hub for climate reduction initiatives

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

We used the project as part of our wider education programme to work with community groups across the city region on how we can all reuse and recycle waste food and drink, the wider impact of waste on the environment and just as importantly the carbon impact. We worked with our partners to teach young people about the impact of waste and how they can make changes to their lives to make a positive difference,
