Calls for more backing as Morecambe’s new film festival earns universal praise
Lancashire Evening PostThe first ever outing for Morecambe’s new film festival has been universally judged as a resounding success attracting filmmakers from around the world with organisers committed to staging the ambitious event next year.

More about our impact
The environment
We collaborated with Relic Plastic and successfully produced sustainable trophies from 100% recycled materials with the help of Relic Plastic as planned. We are now working on a short documentary to share our experience with others.
The local economy
Our survey showed that 25% of our audiences came from beyond Lancashire County and 3% even came from abroad. from our distant guests, we know that they stayed at the Midland Hotel, The Clarendon Hotel, Travelodge and multiple guest houses along the promenade. In terms of food and leisure time drinks, we were especially promoting The Midland Hotel, the Morecambe Hotel, Stone Jetty Café and Miaitalia Pizzeria. we will continue collaborating with local hospitality businesses in the future.
Volunteering, jobs & education
Although this year we did not create many jobs due to the lack of funding, we had many volunteers working with us at the festival - both residents and Lancaster University students.
Arts, culture & heritage
1. We run a unique photo exhibition of previously unseen photographs from a Kubrick film set. It was enjoyed by Morecambe residents and guests of the town in The Midland Hotel. 2. We screened 2 feature films made by local producers (Philip Herd was raised in Morecambe, Matthew Wilkinson is living in Lancaster) and organised a Q&A after the films. 3. 10 films by legendary Stanley Kubrick were well-visited by Morecambe residents. Some guests travelled from afar to join the screenings. 4. We showcased 27 photographs by local photographers in our exhibition. 5. we screened 40 short films and organised Q&A sessions and film discussions.

We gave Morecambe residents opportunities to spend their leisure time exploring world cinema.
