We are creating a hot chocolate van to take our well-loved hot chocolates (and youth workers) to young people … wherever they are!
THE STATION IS ALL ABOUT MAKING CONNECTIONS WITH AND FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AND ENABLING THEM TO JOURNEY WELL IN LIFE. We will purchase and convert an ice-cream van into a hot chocolate van. The Station hot chocolate van will enable us to • Further expand our reach into communities by travelling to sites and curb sides with limited facilities • Engage with hard-to-reach young people by going to where they are and bringing encouragement, hope and making referrals to other agencies where appropriate • We will use the van to Increase the number of young people we meet and serve each week by being more mobile and having a more responsive set up • Gather young people and increase our presence at community events by becoming a free attraction (able to run ‘off grid’) • Easily support other events with a focus on young people by offering something unique, fun and engaging

Why it's a great idea:
Young people and their parents often say there is nothing for youth to do in our towns and villages. We want to see that change. We want young people to have moments where they can gather and hang out together, play games and do sports in a positive atmosphere. We will always be on the side of Young people, encouraging them and helping them to find their voice. The hot-chocolate van will be a gathering point for young people to get free hot chocolates (and cold drinks in the summer). We will travel to the places where young people are. We will encourage and work with all young people but with a particular focus on those who feel isolated or vulnerable to create moments of activity and joy. Steps to get it done:
We are planning to partner with MES graffiti to create a bespoke artwork with young people for the hot chocolate van. The Station is focused in Witney but we are also talking with other youth workers in other towns to offer the van to use in their communities - our hope is to reach into villages and towns across West Oxfordshire

As a young person, you have the right to gather to use the streets appropriately and sensibly in your leisure time.
?Our detached youth workers will help you understand your rights and responsibilities. Our primary focus is you and your needs. We will meet you where you’re at.

You should have trusted adults who are always accepting of you as an individual, non-judgemental, inclusive and willing to challenge negative or inappropriate behaviour.
Our detached youth workers are here for you. We may talk about the aims and needs of other groups and agencies in society, but we are always on your side, so anything we chat about or challenge you about is for your benefit.

You should get to learn from your own experiences through social education; this includes helping you to generate and create relevant experiences from which you can learn.
Our detached youth workers will work with you and other agencies and services when it is in your best interests to receive their support. We can introduce you to people who can help you and we can journey with you in those experiences.

You have the right to challenge appropriately any decisions made by others about your life with which you do not agree and to receive a considered explanation.
Our detached youth workers can help facilitate this process; we can stand with you when it feels as though you are on your own.

You have a right to express an opinion in your community at area, locality and neighbourhood management groups and committees.
Our detached youth workers can support you to do this or advocate on your behalf. We can speak up for you when it seems like no one is listening, and we can help to create opportunities for you to speak for yourself.
