More about our impact
The environment
We've taught the children about how special our world is by using nature to create artwork. The children culminated the project by stencilling the words 'look after our planet' on the seating area.
The local economy
The children have been able to use the Art Garden to fund raise by selling cupcakes; teaching them valuable skills about money and business.
Volunteering, jobs & education
The project was a huge boost in arts and science education for the whole school. Many of the children also got involved in the project management.
Arts, culture & heritage
Part of the purpose of the Indoor Art Garden is to encourage more people to enjoy art and creative activities, and to understand that art is to be enjoyed by everyone. At The Mill we believe passionately that everyone is an artist and use the quote from Pablo Picasso 'every child is an artist' is our motto. Through our own work and research we have evidenced that creative activities can support increased well-being, promote calm and help individuals to achieve a state of flow. Since we completed the Art Garden we have been able to deliver free arts & crafts activities to children and their parents & carers.
Activity, health and leisure
The Indoor Art Garden will act as a play and relaxation area for the children of the school, as well as being a space where large groups can take part in creative activities. The space will become a community hub to which parents and other schools will be invited; this gives children and their visitors to foster and enhance their relationships as it will provide a much needed chance to spend quality time together. this will promote increased connection and strengthen bonds between families and the wider community.
