- Much needed print work opportunities for young offenders of Aylesbury prison
- A usful aid for our emergency services helping to speed up transition to A&E
- Help for seniors with their communication - bringing peace of mind to seniors
Why it's a great idea:
The Medi-SOS Grab-Bag will help so many in our society:
The ©tri-fold form was designed by a committee of emergency services workers, carers and a G.P. with themselves and particularly senior citizens in mind. All had experienced communication and flawed information problems when transporting their charges from home to A&E in an emergency. The grab-bag and its tri-fold form goes some way to solving this as it is large enough to carry dentures, glasses, hearing aids and medication.
The GRAB-BAG (which is the size of a small wash-bag 23cm x 10cm x 14.5cm), is made from a tough microfibre and transparent PVC fabric with large loopy handle that can easily be slipped over a wrist or ankle during transition and has plenty of room to store the ©MEDI-SOS ID form, the owners communication aids, medication and some small essentials.
Every Bag contains:
The ©Tri-fold ID form: for personal info
A sticker pack: stickers to be placed easy-to-see locations.
Fridge magnet: for location details
Steps to get it done:
- Training and delivering the bags to paramedics so that they can be distributed to the most vulnerable in our community
- Procuring the next batch of Grab-bags - hopefully through the prison service
- Organising the new print runs with the young offenders of HMP Aylesbury
A dialogue has been set up with HMP Aylesbury helping another area of our society. The printing of all paperwork, stickers and compilation of the bags will be contracted out to this organisation.
We have the backing from South Central Ambulance Service and Carers Bucks who would love to see the project extended throughout the region.
The project has been very well received not only by seniors, (especially those living alone) but also the emergency services who are always looking for practical ways to help seniors move from home to A&E.
The pilot has been running for 9 months in the Chiltern & South Bucks District after gaining funds from Tescos and CDC to promote the project.
Over 450 bags have been distributed through clubs and societies and groups affiliated to BOPAG .
Next steps:
Training and delivering the bags to paramedics for distribution to the most vulnerable in our community
Procuring the next batch of Grab-bags.
Organising the new print with HMP Aylesbury.
