Northern Racing College provides trained staff for the horse-racing industry. This project aims to raise funds to purchase portable hurdles for the benefit of our students, to increase riding skills.
Northern Racing College is a charitable company providing a range of training for the horse racing industry. We recruit new entrants into horse racing via our Foundation Course, the majority of students being 16 - 18 years, 46% from deprived backgrounds and many having no prior horse experience. Our success rates include 97% of our graduates going into employment, many of whom continue onto further training with us and return to take short courses to build their skills and improve. This project aims to raise funds of £1062 to buy 3 hurdles, that can be moved around the training areas to offer our learners a better quality of learning and skills. The hurdles will add more value to our specialist courses. It will help to build confidence in riders, encourage better jumping positions and help the charity to raise further funds by providing an additional asset for hire.

Why it's a great idea:
The College has been training people for 35 years with amazing success stories. Our team strive to provide the highest quality of training and the best learning experience for every learner. For many young people attending the college, horseracing becomes their lifetime career and they will often return to build their skills and experience. This project is a great idea as it will add so much value to our courses, building confidence, ability and rider position, alongside adding to the fun value for both horse and rider. The hurdles are portable, making it easier for our very busy staff to move them around the site and making them accessible to more courses. By increasing our offering of assets for hire, we are able to add to our income generation opportunities, aiming to eventually become sustainable in maintaining facilities in the future.
Steps to get it done:
The hurdles will be used by: Learners on the Conditional Licence Courses, Category B Permit and some of the Amateur Rider Category A course learners. There is potential to promote to the general public and for use by staff. Our horses will enjoy them too!

VolunteerNational Horseracing College (NHC) is one, of only two horse racing colleges in the country, set up as a charitable company, providing training for the horseracing industry, since 1984. NHC is at the centre of the horseracing community, with over 36 years of supplying trained staff to horseracing. NHC continues to train over 120 new entrants in horseracing each year and delivering a myriad of specialist training courses to existing racing staff. NHC exists to support horseracing as its sustainable, resilient, responsive centre of training excellence in the North. NHC's Foundation Course is the first step towards starting a career in horseracing, whether that is to be a racing groom, a work rider, a jockey or any of the other roles available, offering a route for young people to gain a rewarding career as early as age 16.
The facilities are available for hire, including the indoor schools, gallops and simulators, plus unique, expert tuition, in a range of racing and non-racing equine disciplines are on offer.
