The Hive Thanet

Our mission is to create the first of its kind national bespoke social and learning centre for young people and adults with SEND. With the facility complete, this will help set up the programmes!

This project has reached its fundraising target. It has also activated Continuous Fundraising, which means you can still donate and support the project.

The idea

This is a new facility as currently there is no such facility serving children and young people with disabilities in the Thanet area and Kent, which means they struggle to access relevant education/ training and recreation opportunities outside of school hours or when they have completed their statutory schooling. This facility will enable hundreds of children, young people and adults in the local area to access a range of learning, fun and training activities, reducing social exclusion and improving physical and mental health outcomes while increasing their life chances through work experience and further education. The centre will also be accessible to all people with Special education needs or disabilitie, young and older.

The site and building have already been completed. We now need to fund bringing the project to fruition and life including equipment, volunteers, staffing, workshops, education/training facilities, work experience opportunities, community events and activities.

What we'll deliver

  • Provide learning training programs for up to 500 people with special needs, disabilities or mental health problems
  • To provide training, work experience and support for young people with SEND joining the workforce.
  • To increase the service to 1000+ people to be benefactors from the programs/ recreation.
  • To provide workshops, activities and events to the entire SEND community and their families
  • To help 500 people with SEND learn to cycle proficiently in a safe environment and progress onto roads
  • To allow for a Special Olympic training centre for a vast number of sports

Why it's a great idea

It already has 500 users a week! Gradually increasing to 1000 over the space of a year.
The project will ensure that the entire SEND community has access to sports, leisure, training, horticulture and events.

Steps to get it done

  • 1000 people having used the facility
  • Variety of activities and workshops on offer
  • Collaboration with other charities and organisations
  • Volunteering opportunities in place
  • Staffing secured
  • Sensory garden complete
